Amy Alexander is Unit Head of the Biomechanical Development and Applied Computational Engineering units within Mayo Clinic’s Division of Engineering (DOE). In this role, she bridges the additive manufacturing capabilities of the DOE with the clinical practice. Amy chairs the Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME) Medical Additive Manufacturing Advisory Group, and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering’s (ASME) Medical AM Advisor Committee and a member of the Radiological Society of North America’s 3D Printing in Medicine Special Interest Group (RSNA 3D SIG). Amy is a frequent co-author of medical 3D printing peer-reviewed papers, and long-term reviewer for Springer’s 3D Printing in Medicine Journal. Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). She holds certificates in Additive Manufacturing from MIT and SME. Photo credit: Mayo Clinic Photography.

Dr. Summer Decker is the Director of 3D Clinical Applications and Vice Chair of Research and Innovation at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and Tampa General Hospital. Her team does medical modeling and printing for hospitals across the Tampa Bay area and the US. They hold multiple patents for medical devices developed in their lab using 3D printing. In conjunction with their colleagues at Northwell Health, the USF Health 3D team developed the 3D printed nasopharyngeal swab for COVID diagnostic testing in 2020. Working with FormLabs for distribution, there are more than 70 million of the USF Health designed swab in nearly 60 countries.

Dani Clode is an upper-limb prosthetic, augmentation and product designer, the founder of Dani Clode Design, a Senior Research Technician at the Plasticity Lab and a collaborator at the Alternative Limb Project. Dani has a multi-disciplinary approach to her work that investigates the future architecture and perception of our bodies. Incorporating new materials and design processes, 3d printing, modelling, the mechanics of the human body and robotics, Dani works to challenge the perception and boundaries of future prosthetic design, and assist and extend the human form. Her main project the Third Thumb is currently being developed further in a collaboration with neuroscientists from the Plasticity Lab at Cambridge University, as a model to investigate the brain’s ability to adapt to augmentation by exploring the boundaries of neuroplasticity; seeing how it can be harnessed to improve usability and control of future prosthetic and human augmentative devices.

Shavini Fernando, founder and CEO of OxiWear, is a video game, virtual reality (VR), web designer and developer. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Portsmouth, an M.B.A. from Edith Cowan University, and an M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) from Georgetown University. After being diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension (PH) due to Eisenmenger Syndrome, Shavini invented OxiWear in 2019 as a tool for herself and the larger PH community. Ms. Fernando personally experienced multiple situations in which her heart stopped beating as a result of a sudden drop in oxygen levels, necessitating self-CPR to revive her heart. Her invention and new venture has received a variety of accolades, including awards from the Leonsis Foundation, CitiVentures, and Georgetown University. She was a recent recipient of the Washington Business Journal's 40 Under 40. Originally from Sri Lanka, Ms. Fernando currently resides in Arlington, Virginia.
